drupa is traditionally the largest printing show in the world. Every four years, the printing and ink industry will head to Messe Dusseldorf; this year’s show, the first since 2016 (drupa 2020 was cancelled due to the pandemic), will be held May 28-June 7. drupa 2016 was attended by 260,165 visitors.
Renee Schouten, VP of marketing for INX International Ink Co., said that INX’s participation will revolve around three key facets: sustainability, product innovation and customer partnerships.
“As North America’s third largest ink manufacturer and with worldwide support from Sakata INX, our capabilities expand every year,” Schouten said. “New product innovation has always been a top priority, and the recent expansion of our R&D campus was paramount in our efforts to involve sustainability in every new product developed since the beginning of this decade. We value our customer partnerships, and drupa is the perfect environment to reconnect with them and others.”
Toyo Ink Europe Specialty Chemicals, a subsidiary of artience Co., Ltd., will be on hand to showcase new products. Ken Yamasaki, sales and marketing manager, inkjet business, Toyocolor Co., Ltd., said that artience’s focus at drupa 2024 will be on inkjet.
“Since the 1990s, artience Co., Ltd. (formerly Toyo Ink SC Holdings) has been developing industrial inkjet inks, including its own pigments and polymers, and delivering solutions for an array of digital printing markets,” Yamasaki said. “Toyocolor, the colorants and functional materials business of artience, actively partners with OEMs and press manufacturers to develop ink systems that meet the quality and functionality requirements of various digital printing techniques.
“Among the products in our comprehensive inkjet ink portfolio are solvent-based, UV and UV LED inks for the outdoor signage applications as well as water-based, UV and UV LED inks for the packaging market, such as corrugated board and labels,” Yamasaki added. “Toyocolor is committed to developing inkjet formulations and processes with the lowest possible environmental impact. This includes advanced UV LED and low-energy-drying, water-based solutions needed to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental and energy issues.
“For close to a decade, our factories in France and India have amassed expertise in the development of world-class inkjet solutions and built a solid reputation for OEM production excellence with several companies in the digital print industry,” Yamasaki continued. “In recent years, Toyocolor has expanded its production and support network to include state-of-the-art facilities in the US and China. This makes it possible to provide the same high-quality product to all of our customers in any part of the world.”'
Fujifilm Europe will have a 20% larger stand at drupa 2024.
“The last few years have seen a real transformation in Fujifilm’s product portfolio across all market sectors, and what better time and place than the world’s biggest global print exhibition, returning after an eight-year hiatus, to showcase these recent developments, together in one place for the first time,” said Taku Ueno, SVP, Graphic Communications Division, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, in announcing Fujifilm’s plans.
“Since 2021, we have seen the complete redesign and relaunch of our Acuity range of wide format printers, the expansion of our analog packaging portfolio, along with the launch of our first digital flexible packaging press, and of course the introduction of a large and growing range of toner presses for the commercial print market,” added Ueno.
“As well as the huge number of new digital solutions, Fujifilm also remains a global leader in the manufacture and supply of technologies and consumables for analog applications, whether that is offset, flexo or screen printing,” said Ueno. “drupa 2024 represents the perfect opportunity for Fujifilm to combine all these solutions in one place, and to come together with our growing range of leading partners from across the industry, to showcase world-class pre-press, print and finishing solutions designed to give our customers a competitive edge.”
HP will show its full range of presses and consumables during drupa.
“We have defined a course, and we stay committed to it,” said Haim Levit, SVP and division president, HP Industrial Print, in announcing HP’s plans. “Industry transformation requires significant investments, innovation and collaboration with partners to help our customers grow profitably, faster than the industry. As we continue to push the industry forward, I’m excited to share more on our vision to deliver the intelligent factory, underpinned by HP innovation in automation, security and sustainability.”
“drupa has consistently served as the pulse of our industry, providing an ideal platform for industry players to embrace current and future innovations. With eight years having passed since the last edition, ground-breaking innovations have come to light and can now leverage the drupa platform,” said Filip Weymans, VP of marketing at Xeikon, in announcing Xeikon’s plans.
COIM will be highlighting its flexible packaging portfolio at drupa 2024.
“COIM’s presence at the drupa event represents an additional element of the company’s strategy for the flexible packaging sector. This strategy contemplates a focus of investments in this sector over the next three years. During the drupa event, we intend to present a new, broadened range of products in order to expand our offer,” said Luca Gianzini, COIM’s marketing and M&A manager.
Shouten said that INX has been looking forward to drupa for a long time, considering the last live show was in 2016.
“Before it was canceled due to the COVID pandemic in 2020, INX had just introduced the Coloring a Safe and Sustainable Future (CSSF) model that supports customers,” Schouten noted. “Since then, we have expanded our efforts across many segments to include best-in-class ink performance, consumer product safety, sustainable packaging and digital printing. We plan to bring everyone up to speed on our latest developments, including the progress we are making with new venture capital partnerships.”
“For the first time in eight years, drupa will be held on-site in Dusseldorf,” Yamasaki said. “We expect a strong turnout from the printing industry from all corners of the world. The industry has changed in many ways over the past eight years, one area of which is the further digitization of the printing process.
“With the printing industry experiencing declining print volumes and stricter environmental requirements, artience has continuously delivered digital solutions to our customers as a potential area of growth,” added Yamasaki. “drupa 2024 presents a big opportunity for us to connect with industry professionals and discuss ways we can work together to drive real growth opportunities in inkjet printing.”
