In the space of 42 years, Hans Gerd Doneck turned a small, one-man business that boiled inks in his household kitchen into a medium-sized provider of flexo and gravure inks.
The company produces solvent-based and water-based flexographic and gravure printing inks, which are primarily used to refine paper and foil packaging.
The products’ main areas of application are printing inks for flexible packaging, paper bags and wrapping paper, as well as cardboard boxes and napkins. This often also includes food packaging and items of daily use.
Doneck Euroflex S.A. currently employs approximately 160 staff at its headquarters in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg.
“With its aim of ensuring high-quality customer and delivery service across Europe, Doneck Euroflex S.A. has in recent years built up the Doneck Network, consisting of seven branches in Chile, Germany, England, Italy, Poland, Spain and Hungary,” said Rita Knippel, manager, marketing & communications, Doneck Euroflex. “These companies collectively employ another 60 staff, and are responsible for local sales, ink laboratories, production, technical customer service, some customized ink mixing, and distribution/logistics.”
The Doneck Network supplies businesses in more than 20 countries, Knippel added.
European customers include packaging manufacturers of varying sizes, ranging from small owner-run businesses, larger medium-sized businesses and European packaging groups.
“Our customer philosophy is based on the desire to build and maintain reliable, long-term partnerships, which sees us offer our customers exceptionally extensive support through our INKtelligence service package,” Knippel said. “Our streamlined company structure with flat hierarchy enables us to be exceptionally responsive and flexible when necessary.”
Through its Euromix system, Doneck offers an ink and dispersing system under one roof, Knippel said.
“Automatic dispensing systems combined with highly pigmented ink concentrates have become an essential part of modern-day package printing,” she continued. “We are one of the few printing ink manufacturers to offer both ink and dispensing systems under one roof.
“In addition to the many advantages offered by a dispensing system, our customers exclusively also benefit from Doneck Network-specific solutions.”
According to Knippel, Doneck reported sales of some €60 million ($64.75 million) in 2019.
“Our company has developed exceptional expertise in packaging printing inks over several decades,” the marketing & communications manager said. “The team, comprising 220 staff, includes numerous professionals specializing in printing inks, printing technology and other important fields, such as food safety, analytics and systems engineering.”
Doneck places a lot of emphasis on quality, R&D and service.
“Our creative minds are constantly researching in order to achieve progress,” Knippel said. “With passion and a pioneering spirit, we create the next generation of printing inks at our modern laboratories.
“More than a quarter of our staff attend to product development, shades and technical customer service on a daily basis,” she continued. “Every development project begins with careful selection of suitable raw materials. We have a worldwide network of reliable suppliers, whom we involve in our work. Our state-of-the-art laboratory technology guarantees methodically flawless formulations tested in accordance with customer specifications.
“We only approve our products for use in printing units once they have been carefully checked and deemed harmless to humans and the environment. Independent institutes confirm this by issuing corresponding certifications,” Knippel added.
“INKtelligence is the comprehensive service package enjoyed by our customers. Our customer philosophy is based on the desire to build and maintain reliable, long-term partnerships, which sees us offer our customers exceptionally extensive support through our INKtelligence service package,” she concluded.
Moving forward, Doneck plans to successfully stay on a worldwide growth path, per Knippel.
The company is also looking to expand its customer structure in the European and world market and build new factories in its European locations.
The further development of inks from renewable raw materials is also a top priority, Knippel said.
