The growth of packaging and new press technologies are important topics for the ink indutry, and these will be among the topics covered during the National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers' (NAPIM) Annual Convention, which will be held March 22-25, 2014 at Rancho Bernardo in San Diego, CA.
“We are really excited about this year’s annual convention in San Diego,” said Brad Bergey, NAPIM’s executive director. “The Rancho Bernardo Inn is an outstanding venue with first class accommodations and championship golf. This year’s convention agenda has been carefully put together by the program committee to provide the right balance of networking opportunities, insightful business and market presentation and fun events and exciting tours in the San Diego area. Visit the NAPIM website for registration and up to date program information. We look forward to seeing you in sunny (and warm) San Diego.”
The convention opens on the evening of March 22 with the Ptresident’s Reception, and gets underway Sunday, March 23. Tim Gard, a motivational speaker and comedian, will be the speaker at the opening breakfast, which will be followed by the Annual Meeting and State of the Industry Report.
Monday, March 24’s general session features a keynote talk by Afterburner, former Air Force military pilots, whose topic will be “Flawless Execution.” A discussion on the latest safety information, including the introduction of the new NAPIM Three-Roll Mill video, will also be featured. The night will include “Fun Night at Miramar” for attendees.
After the Technical Associate Members (TAM) breakfast on Tuesday, March 25, the convention’s business session will feature talks by Larry Montague, president and CEO of TAPPI, who will discuss “Paper, Packaging, and Tissue Industry Dynamics.” He will be followed by Soile Kilpi, director of Poyry Management Consultants USA, who will cover “Paper Boxboard Market Dynamics.” A speaker on the flexible packaging is being finalized.
The business session will then covert “New Printing Technologies Offset, Flexo, Digital,” with a panel of three speakers: Dillon Mooney, Printing Industries of America; Richard Morris, Saxby Business Development; and Denny McGee, ACT Global Systems Inc. Mooney with talk about “Innovations in Offset Press Technology.” Morris will cover “Digital Press Technology.” McGee’s topic is “Innovation with Flexo Press Technology.”
The Ault Award and Printing Ink Pioneer Awards will be presented at the black tie Awards Dinner, which closes the convention.
Outside of business meetings, there will be the tennis and golf tournaments, a shopping trip to La Jolla, as well as tours of Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo Tour and the U.S.S. Midway aircraft carrier.
