A gala event was held at Clontarf Castle in Dublin on April 26, 2024 – a celebration of excellence and innovation in the Irish print industry, the 45th Irish Print Awards. The event sees the industry’s finest talents gathered together to celebrate the achievements of their peers.
With 30 categories judged by a diverse, well-suited panel of independent experts from across the sector, the awards underscore the creativity and resilience that define the print community in Ireland.
MCC Drogheda was awarded Flexographic Label Printer of the Year for Finvara – The King’s Gambit.
The label was printed using Flint Group's Flexocure Force ink range. The label uses gold foil and a silkscreen varnish to raise the image. The raised silk screen was applied to bring the forest to life.
Initially an emboss was considered but, because of the intricate detail of the design it could not deliver the desired effect. It was then sealed with an overall coat of high scuff matt varnish. The ‘Finvara’, ‘The King’s Gambit’ and ‘Irish Whiskey’ texts were then embossed using male and female emboss plates.
“The team at MCC Drogheda are delighted with our win at the 2023 Irish Print Awards for Flexographic Label Printer of the Year. We are extremely proud of our work on the Finvara, The King’s Gambit label. Achieving the desired finish on the label was a challenging technical process and we feel the result is a worthy award winner,” said Stuart Boyle, MCC Drogheda plant manager.
“Mack Brands, a proud member of the Mack & Schuhle group, celebrates the recent Gold Medal awarded to our Finvara Irish Whiskey for its innovative label design,” said Nicolas Mack. “Launched in 2023, Finvara has quickly captured the imagination of whiskey enthusiasts by embodying the rich lore of Irish mythology in both its unique storytelling and superior craftsmanship. This prestigious recognition highlights our commitment to blending traditional distillation methods with standout packaging, making Finvara a symbol of unity and adventure among whiskey lovers worldwide.”
