The Printing Industry Association of the South (PIAS) announced the winners of its 2023 Grahic Awards during the PIAS 49th Annual Convention in Destin, FL.
This annually held competition is designed to appropriately recognize and honor those responsible for the design, creation, and production of top-quality printed materials. They focus on those of which have had an impact, appeal, and effectiveness as sales/marketing, communications, or educational mediums.
There was a total of 293 Awards of Excellence presented this year and 127 Best of Category Awards. Entries were submitted into one of four divisions: Trade Houses specializing in binding and finishing services; Printers with more than 60 employees; Printers with 21 to 60 employees, and Printers with less than 20 employees.
Possible awards received were the coveted Best of Show Award; one of four Best of Division Awards; mounted certificates for Best of Category; or unmounted certificates for Award of Excellence. One special award winner was also dedicated for the best Self-Advertising piece.
The PIAS Graphic Awards Competition was judged through a point system by a panel of three experts. A printed piece must earn a certain number of points based on excellence in creativity, design, typography, and general layout; degree of difficulty, quality, and technique of reproduction; and if appropriate, unusual applications such as special effects.
The Best of Category Award was given to the entry with the highest composite score within each category. All the Best of Category from each division winners were grouped together and judged again to determine the Best of Division award. After judging for all divisions are completed, the Best of Division winners are judged again to determine the top honor- the Best of Show trophy.
