The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s (SGIA) Gary Jones, director of environmental, health and safety affairs, will lead a new Hazardous Waste Bootcamp training program at the Printing & Graphics Association Mid-Atlantic (PGAMA) headquarters in Columbia, Maryland. The workshop will be held Thursday, Nov. 8 from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Admission is $99 for the first person registered and $79 for each additional person.
Jones said hazardous waste regulations are often not fully understood, leading to improper management of materials. This workshop is designed to teach printers in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia how to avoid mishandling hazardous waste that could lead to administrative or legal problems and fines.
“Every printing organization generates hazardous waste, and with the changes in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, you want to be sure you are handling waste properly,” said Jones. “This workshop will arm you with the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge needed to meet requirements that will keep your organization out of trouble.”
Jones will discuss a variety of successful waste management strategies as well as the most recent EPA regulations. The workshop will cover:

- Understanding generator classification and management requirements;
- Differences between satellite and central accumulation areas;

- Proper management of universal wastes and used oils;
- Preparing for and responding to emergencies.
