WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH, Gerhardshofen, Franconia, is offering six new lacquers for the use of LED-based drying systems for offset and flexo printing.
These are two UV LED lacquers that can be applied by regular coating units:
• SENOLITH UV Gloss Lacquer LED 360750
• SENOLITH UV Matt Lacquer LED 360760
Two UV LED inking unit lacquers:
• SENOLITH UV Offset Gloss Lacquer LED 369855
• SENOLITH UV Offset Matt Lacquer LED 369865
A UV LED-based structure gloss hybrid lacquer system:
• SENOLITH UV Offset Matt Lacquer HYBRID LED 369866 in combined printing with
• SENOLITH UV Gloss Lacquer HYBRID LED 360753
The general advantages of LED curing are:
• Energy-saving compared to conventional UV technology.
• Radiation energy is available immediately (no waiting times for starting up or by cool down).
• Minimal heat input into the substrate.
• High durability of the radiators.
• Possible pointed radiation.
• Lamps do not contain toxic substances, i.e. mercury.
• No ozone development at the used wavelengths.
• Lacquers for absorbent substrates, such as paper and cardboard.
The new lacquers of Weilburger are characterized by good gradation, very high gloss/good matt values as well as minimal yellowing tendency, and are currently available for the both wavelengths 385 nm and 395 nm.
“A trend in the LED curing of printing lacquers, inks and adhesives is noticeable for several years and the variety of materials is constantly increasing,” Arno Dürr, sales director of WEILBURGER Graphics GmbH, said. “Nowadays, qualitative LED lacquers are comparable with conventional UV lacquers and are also gradually received in the packaging industry. Especially the economical and ecological advantages of LED curing to other drying and curing processes are obvious and we are expecting a continuously increasing demand for LED lacquer systems as soon as the most printers have converted to the new LED UV technology. This is why we are first starting with this six standard lacquers with which we can cover a large number of requirements and we will also expand our portfolio of UV LED lacquers by special and effect lacquers in the coming years.”
